BESPOKE KITCHEN

This small European-style cottage kitchen with a subtle modern feel was meticulously designed alongside the client to fit every detail. The V-groove inset doors suggest modern cottage and the natural soapstone counters add a warmth to the worksurface. Legs on the lower cabinets provide a built-in furniture feel. Handmade brick tile backsplash adds aged patina and light.

Bathroom Remodel

CLASSIC

This bathroom is located off a bedroom on the second floor of an 1870 French Second Empire Victorian home. Presumably, this was the original main suite of the home with the most elegant bathroom. The goal of this remodel is to transport you back in time to what the original historic character might be.

A Carrara marble-topped chrome washstand and penny round tiles create a simple elegance. The marble arched surround of the shower mirrors the arch of the 7' tall window and adds a traditional touch. Even the exposed plumbing under the sink is historically accurate.

Bathroom Remodel

FATHER'S OFFICE

This space was a storage closet off the owner's 3rd floor home office. The challenge was to create a half bath and use any treasures found throughout the home, barn and outbuildings on the property.

The original painted hardwood floor planks were removed, flipped, and reinstalled exposing the rough-cut saw marks and rich patina. The original faux-painted baseboards were replicated to replace broken and missing boards. Old barn wood was used to craft the sink countertop. The room was painted a moody dark color.

Bathroom Remodel

HISTORIC WHIMSY

It was important to the owners of this 1870 French Second Empire Victorian home to honor the past while providing for the future. This bathroom space is located at the servant’s staircase leading into the kitchen.

To preserve the utilitarian nature of the bathroom, the original 1900 clawfoot tub was refurbished and a cast-iron farmhouse sink was added. The layout was also reconfigured to make the bathroom more usable for their adult kids and grandkids. Additional details include a reclaimed redwood countertop with original house corbels and classic penny round tile with flower pattern.

GUEST RETREAT

This bathroom, located in a 1870 French Second Empire Victorian home, received a light remodel. The shower was enlarged, and a Carrara marble archway was added. A dark rich paint brings warmth to the bathroom and highlights the owner's art collection.

HISTORIC HEALDSBURG

This primary bathroom in an English Tudor Cottage home needed to be updated and carefully planned out to make the best use of the small space. A floating countertop was crafted using reclaimed wood from a 50-year-old wedding gift. The custom shape allows for a larger shower while leaving plenty of room to use the sink. A freestanding tall cabinet was custom built to replace the storage usually found in an under-sink vanity. Carrara marble adds an historic elegance.

KITCHEN DESIGN AND REMODEL

This kitchen was completely remodeled and opened up to the dining and living rooms. Classic white shaker-style cabinets and subway tile backsplash create a bright and timeless room. Caesarstone quartz counters, new recessed lighting and industrial pendent lights over the island add a modern touch.

Live Edge Walnut Counter

LIVE EDGE WALNUT SLAB COUNTERTOP

Dain Stephens was brought in by designer John Douglas of ReInhabit to craft and install two works of art. One, a live edge walnut slab countertop, the other, a walnut and brass light fixture over the new countertop. These pieces add refined raw nature and warmth to this bright midcentury modern kitchen. The countertop features a uniquely mitered elbow, butterfly keys and an all-natural mineral oil and bees wax finish.

Mid Century Walnut Chandelier

MID-CENTURY MODERN CHANDELIER

This Googie-style light fixture was commissioned by designer John Douglas. It was designed and built specifically for this kitchen. It features a solid walnut body, antique lamp cord, three solid brass bells and mineral oil and bees wax finish.

MODERN BATH DESIGN AND REMODEL

This bathroom was designed to be simple, bright and spa-like. Light colored tiles on the walls and floor were used to increase the perceived space. A solid mahogany vanity cabinet was repurposed, modified and refinished in black satin. The custom weathered mahogany wood mirrors add warmth.

Retro Kitchen Remodel

RETRO KITCHEN PRESERVATION

Dain Stephens was brought in to collaborate on this 50’s style kitchen with John Douglas, Designer and Art Director of ReInhabit. The kitchen was reconfigured using the existing cabinets while a new custom pantry and refrigerator cabinet were built on-site to match the existing style. Unique “Jetsons” style corbels where crafted and installed on the island bar.

Kitchen Install

OLD ROSSI PLACE INTERIOR

ECCLECTIC CHARM

A talented Healdsburg artist commissioned Dain Stephens to create a unique bathroom utilizing her collection of odds and ends. A rusty clawfoot tub found in the owner's yard was refurbished and painted. Salvaged wood from the attic was turned into a countertop and cabinet pulls. An old picture frame was used to highlight a section of interion framing that the owner loved seeing exposed. And an old barn light was rewired.
